Report about the Architectural Digest Show
It was a great week at the show. The number and quality of attendees both were all I could have hoped for. I learned a few things which have changed my approach to how I market myself.
First, my pool table was the center of attention and I have decided to focus even more on being the custom pool table craftsman. Before the show I put myself forward as a furniture designer with a specialty in pool tables. Now I am the designer of pool tables who comes from a background in furniture design.
Second, the show is perhaps the best venue in this country for interior designers and craftsmen to meet. This was my experience and the experience of the many other exhibitors in the MADE Section of the show. I am now talking with designers I met at the show about custom pool tables in California and Colorado. I expect more to happen with other designers I met at the show.
Third, the show is all about contemporary design because that is what designers and the public want in custom made objects. I intend to continue to push my new designs in a direction which is more post-modern and sculptural.
Please let me know if you met my son, who helped me all week, or me at the show and give me your impressions.
I have delivered pool tables to some beautiful areas of the country. Sedona, Arizona and Ojai, California come to mind. I will continue my reporting from distant places as I visit them.
Your intrepid reporter,
Howard Hatch
